Extreme heat is an emerging public health challenge. ASHA workers are uniquely positioned to raise awareness and promote preventive actions among vulnerable communities. Prayas conducted a study among ASHA workers in Pune city to understand their preparedness, which helped identify their specific training needs and capacity-building requirements.
Based on these findings, Prayas, in collaboration with the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Pune District Health Department, implemented a training initiative for ASHA workers. As part of this effort, 3,611 ASHA workers from urban and rural areas of Pune district were trained, and a dedicated information booklet was developed to support their work.
This report documents the journey from research to action, describing how evidence generated through the study among ASHA workers on their heat health preparedness informed the design and implementation of the training program for urban and rural ASHAs from Pune district.
