The South Asia Research Hub (SARH), DFID had initiated a Systematic Review (SR) Programme for South Asia. The programme aims at providing DFID country offices, policy makers and practitioners in South Asia with a robust assessment of the evidence base for their policies and programmes. As part of this program, a commissioned systematic review on effectiveness of different gender-responsive policing initiatives designed to enhance confidence, satisfaction in policing services and reduce risk of violence against women in low and middle-income countries was conducted in collaboration with Public Health Evidence South Asia (PHESA), Manipal University.

Objectives:

The specific objectives of the review were

  1. To identify and thematically classify interventions carried out under Gender Responsive Policing initiatives in low and middle income countries to enhance women’s confidence and satisfaction in policing services.
  2. To synthesize the existing evidence on effectiveness of different ‘gender-responsive policing’ initiatives designed to enhance confidence and satisfaction in policing services and reduce risk of violence against women in low and middle-income countries.
